1. WLReporter-ME - Weatherlink monthly reporting utility

WLReporter-ME (WLR-ME or WLR-Monthly Edition) is a recent and somewhat simplified version of the full WLReporter program, which is described in more detail below. WLR-ME provides similar functionality to the full WLR program except that it focuses on analysing just one single month's data at a time. Please see the description below for the full WLR program for more details of what WLR and WLR-ME can do and also for general installation notes.

For anyone who has used WLR previously, WLR-ME now removes the necessity to to create an intermediate Access database. WLR-ME works directly on the Weatherlink archive files and so the process of using WLR-ME is significantly simplified. As for the full WLR program, WLR-ME is a .Net program and detailed user notes are included with the download.

This version v0.680 (9th Jan 2009) is the first beta release of WLR-ME and as such is likely to have significant bugs and blemishes. Deriving the WLR-ME code from WLR has been, to a large extent, two steps sideways (to provide the simplified functionality) and potentially one step back (because important chunks of the code have needed to be rewritten, with the inevitable possibility that new errors have been introduced). This early version is being made available more widely in response to a number of enquiries about the WLR-ME program asking for further information as soon as possible. More fully tested and robust beta versions will be made available in due course, but for anyone interested in taking a preliminary look at the program here is the download location. As usual, any feedback on the program will be appreciated.

Update 1st Nov 2009: Unfortunately work has been delayed on finishing the first full release of this utility and the beta has now formally expired. We are hoping to complete the development work within the next 8-10 weeks, but the following keycode should enable prospective users to continue to evaluate the program.

2. WLReporter - full edition

WLReporter (WLR) is a software utility designed to generate tabular summary reports from raw weather data contained in Davis Weatherlink v5.3+ archive files. WLR aims to provide much more flexibility in report design than Weatherlink itself allows. An example of WLR output is shown below.

The main features of WLR include:

An initial private beta version of this utility is now available for download - see link below. Please note that this is an early beta intended primarily as a demonstration of WLR's features. In particular, the accuracy of the results and general robustness of the program are not guaranteed and are subject to further testing.

Important: Please note that this is a .Net application whose use will require installation of the Microsoft .Net v2.0 framework if you don't have it installed already. WLR should be compatible with Windows 2000 and XP. Windows 98 should also be compatible provided it has been updated with a recent version of Windows Installer (if in doubt just download and try to install WLR - the installation will simply fail if a suitable Windows environment cannot be set up.)

Latest beta is v0.925 (26 Jan 2007). This beta adds further options for reporting minimum and maximum temperature values and contains other bug fixes. Please see the ReadMe file included with the download for an important note about changes to WLR file locations and a full list of other changes. Download the current beta as uncompressed .msi Windows Installer file (584KB) or in zipped form (383KB). After installation, you may wish to check that you have the latest available version of the allfields3.txt file (see below) installed and, if necessary, download the latest version and copy it to the appropriate folder.

The following licence key may be used for the beta version: 190E-DAA3-9545-C4CA-C2B4-02F1-21F5-6CC1 (It's easiest to cut and paste this key from this web page.)

allfields3.txt - latest version

allfields3.txt is the tab-delimited text file that defines key parameters for all of the individual WLR report fields. This file is maintained independently of the WLR executable so that the repertoire of report fields can be corrected and extended without needing to install a new version of WLR. This file is typically placed during installation in the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WLReporter. Updated versions of allfields3.txt should be copied to this folder. Version history is as follows:

3 Feb 2007 18:30 Wind Run units corrected;

Right-click the following link to download the latest version of allfields3.txt

NB US-based visitors please note: A bug has been identified probably to do with date-handling on PCs set to US-locale, which can interfere with correct building of the WLR database. It isn't currently clear whether this bug has been successfully dealt with. If you do encounter unexpected errors when building or reporting from the database when using Windows set to US locale then please let us know asap.

To install: Unzip the download file if necessary and then run the resulting .msi file in a suitable Windows environment.

Important: If you have installed a previous beta version, please uninstall this using the Window control panel before installing the new version. (This may not be strictly necessary, but is probably the safest approach for now.) NB The config and report file formats have changed since v0.700 and are not compatible.

Preliminary user notes are included in the download.

3. WLDS - Weatherlink data server utility

This utility automatically creates and maintains an Access database from WL archive files.

Important: Please note that this is a .Net application whose use will require installation of the Microsoft .Net framework.

Current version v0.601 [15 Dec 2004]

Download using this link: WLDS601.zip (size = 228KB)

To install: Unzip the download file and then run the resulting .msi file in a suitable Windows environment.

Draft user notes are available separately on request.

The current beta version has no active licensing mechanism, but must not be redistributed without the express permission of PALCode.
